Rep Team Formation
Periodically, we have people inquiring about why there isn't a Rep team at a certain level and for those who may be interested in the club expanding this program, here are the steps which must take place:
We hold tryouts in the Fall for the following season. By the end of the current house-league season (August), we need to hear from a coach who is willing to step-up. That coach, who must be certified by the OSA by May of the next season [Children, Youth , Senior & Basic Referee] must submit a letter of intent to the Club, including coaching experience, references, team staff, etc.
Note: These certification costs are covered by the Club.
We also need to know that there is serious interest from potential players/families. Example: For a mini-field team that will roster 14-15 players, we need a list of at least 20-25 families who are seriously interested in trying out. At the same time, a good prospective coach can present a list of players that he/she has scouted from "house" as a means to assure the Board there is both the talent and interest to play Rep at that level.
In the past we have taken chances on new Rep team entries [where we were assured there was the interest] and we have ordered uniforms (December), made team entry payment (January) and booked indoor tryout facilities (Feb/March) only to discover after making this commitment that there wasn't the interest or commitment back. Consequently, this is why we hold Fall tryouts prior to having to make these payments and plans.
For the upcoming season, any coach interested in fielding a Rep team should contact the Board. Over the course of this coming season the individual should begin the process of scouting talent and recruiting parents. It is possible to take an all-star team out of house-league to play in a Recreational tournament as a means to further test the interest and talent potential. Then by the Fall, the coach can submit a proposal to the Board showing that all the criteria has been satisfied and we can plan on entering that team for next season.
If you have any further questions or comments about the Rep program, please email the Club and we will respond as quickly as we can.
